Hello there! Welcome to Bush Meadow Farm, located in Union, CT. We are a small family farm, 1/2 mile west of exit 73, I-84. We are a state licensed "micro-dairy". We bottle pasteurized goat milk and handcraft three types of cheese. In our home style restaurant we serve lunch and breakfast all day long. We bake our own breads and rolls daily and we are known for our nearly half pound cinnamon rolls. Smoked meats are one of our specialties, and are wonderful on our breakfast and lunch sandwiches!
We grow and raise it, We process it, We bake and cook it. All right here!!
Most folks describe our goat milk as tasting like "half and half" or children call it "melted ice cream"! I think that is because we have happy healthy animals. Our nubians were all bottle fed when they were kids and are very socialized to humans. They are given free access to their pastures and barn. The goats are given fresh well water that is tested by the Department of Agriculture and grain specifically developed for dairy goats. Our girls are also fed only the best pasture mix hay that contains no pesticides or inorganic fertilizers.
We place most of our goats, both does and bucklings, each year. We sell them for a variety of purposes to include: 4H projects, pets, lawn mowers, horse
companions. We have superior genetics and are happy to talk to about a purchase!
We are a state licensed dairy plant. Our goat milk is considered the best by our customers. We currently have goat milk available about 11 months a year. This way we give the girls a break before birthing again. The milk is pasteurized but not homogenized. THIS IS OLD TIME, 1950'S STYLE MILK!!. You can skim the cream off if you want or shake and mix it back in!! We sell it in half gallon bottles. Please call or email for current pricing
CHEVRE: We treat the traditional soft goat cheese in a non-traditional way. We make ours a little moister than usual and hand mix herbs and seasonings into the cheese instead of on the surface of a "log". We do sell it plain for folks who use it as a replacement for cream cheese and "farmers cheese" to be used in such recipes as pierogies and other food specialties. However our flavored cheeses are very popular both for retail sales and on our breakfast and lunch menu.
Spicy: Chipotle and Garlic, Tomato Bacon Horseradish
Mello: Roasted Galic and Spinach, Dill Herb
Sweet: Maple Cinnamon, Canolli Filling
FETA: Our Feta is also different from the store bought. First off it is fresh. The store bought feta is very salty and dry/ crumbly. It is like this to extned the "shelf life". Our feta is moist, sliceable and only very lightly salted. It is excellant in omelets, wonderful on sandwiches, and really something else on a pizza!
CHEDDAR: We are again producing wheels and "Popcorn Cheddar". "Popcorn" is young salted cheddared curds. Both types are wonderful as a snack as is or used as an ingrediant for your favorite recipe. It is one of our most popular requests for our kitchen table. Pictured is a wheel of our regular Cheddar. These wheels are available on a very limited basis, special requests are welcome!! We are a state licensed bakery. Currently we produce for our restaurant, but will do special orders of our products. Baked fresh each day we produce:

We are a FDA registered, Health Department licensed and inspected facility. We produce both smoked and cured/smoked meats. We currently produce standard products for our "meat department" and for our restaurant. But what sets us apart is that we love to experiment and do "special" orders!! Various meats are available on a daily basis for retail sale in our "meat department". Please call or email to discuss a special smoked meat or sausage for your next function. We produce our brown eggs for both our restaurant and for customers. We raise a type of hen known as a sex-linked chicken. These Black Star and Red Star chickens can be identified as male or female from birth. We do not have roosters on the farm. Our hens are on the "retirement program" here on the farm, they will not be used as meat birds.
We practice a type of sustainable "chicken farming" known as pasteured. This means that the hens are allowed to free range throughout the farm eating the local grasses, bugs, and ground grit, just like wild birds. However, our hens are restricted from this during the hours of dusk to about mid-morning. During this time they are allowed free access to the interoir of the coop (no cages) and to their fortified outdoor pen. This is to prevent loses from predators and the eggs being laid all over the farm. Sour and spoiling eggs attract predators and this is counterproductive to what we want to do!!!
The quality of the eggs is amazing. Strong colored yokes, whites that "stand" and are seperated into primary and secondary albumins. This is one of the reasons our breakfasts are so special
USDA Inspected, all natural, no hormones or antibiotics. Just plain good small family farm meat. Various cuts and quantities available. Goat meat is half way between lamb and veal. It is on the order of venison. Cook it the same way: either hot and fast OR low slow and moist!! We will talk to you about the best way to prepare and serve your purchase!
By combining all the above and our farm fresh eggs we will build you a wonderful meal. Always check the "Production Menu" for daily specials and what is available in cheeses and smoked meats. The restaurant is family style and has seating for 15 folks. We pride ourselves on getting the food out fast...... Please call ahead for groups greater than 4. We want to make your experiance as pleasant as possible. We do have a menu, but unlike "Denny's" we do "custom requests".
